Performing Salaah in the state of illness

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I am punctual on my Salaah but since my dysentery (i.e. inflammation of the intestine causing diarrhea with traces of blood) I have not been offering my prayers. It’s been six days now. Today I felt better so I made ghusl and performed asar and magrib but now the pus and blood are passing in my stool. Am I again napaak? Please advise?

Bismillaah

A: You should not leave out your Salaah on account of your ill health. Instead in whichever condition you are able to perform the Salaah, you should perform it. If you are unable to stand, then you can sit and perform the Salaah. If you are unable to sit and perform the Salaah, then you should lie down and perform the Salaah. The passing of blood in one’s stool will not make one incapable of performing Salaah. You should make qadha of all the Salaah you have missed during your illness.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
