Husband telling the wife ‘I swear I will not ask you for anything’

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: If a husband out of anger says to his wife because of her not listening to him ‘I swear I will not ask you for anything’? Does it mean he can never ask her for anything such as to give him food? If so what if he forgets and does ask her? What is the compensation for that? How can this oath be invalidated?

Bismillaah

A: The oath will break even if he asks her forgetfully. He should discharge the kaffara for breaking the oath. For further details regarding the kaffara for breaking the oath refer to http://muftionline.co.za/node/8270

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
