Celebrating thanksgiving

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: We are living in USA. Here every year people are celebrating Thanksgiving day. Our Muslims are also celebrating in the same way. Is it permissible for a Muslim to celebrate this day?

Bismillaah

A: One is supposed to thank Allah Ta’ala everyday for the countless favours and bounties one receives from Allah Ta’ala. Similarly one should be appreciative and thankful to all those one benefits from. Earmarking one day to express thanks is totally against the spirit of Islam.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
