Washing the hands in wudhu

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: During wudhu, whilst washing the arms, is it also fardh to include washing the hands too, or is washing the the arm from the wrist to the elbow sufficient as hands have already been washed previously at the beginning?

Bismillaah

A: At the time of washing the hands in wudhu one should wash the entire hand beginning from the finger tips till the elbows (i.e. including the elbows). Washing the hands till the elbows is fardh in wudhu. Though one had washed the hands till the wrists at the beginning of the wudhu, however this is a separate Sunnah.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
