Can Giving Cash to the Poor Erase Haraam Interest in Your Bank Account?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: A person accrues R50 of haraam interest in his bank account. From his wallet, he gives R50.00 in cash to a poor, deserving Muslim with the intention of disposing this accumulated interest in his bank account. Has he disposed of the R50 interest noting that the actual ‘interest R50’ is still in his bank account?

Bismillaah

A: The interest amount has been disposed off.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
