Reciting while listening to the Qur’an

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: If I know a Surah of by heart but play a recording of it whilst reading (to make sure I do not make mistakes), will my Tilaawah (e.g. of my night Surahs) be complete?

Bismillaah

A: This is incorrect. The tilaawat must be done with focus. You cannot be listening and reciting at the same time. The Qur’aan has a right that you listen to it attentively, and listening to it attentively means that you remain absolutely silent.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
