Q: On whatsapp, which is an instant messaging service for smartphones, people can post a profile for themselves. Many people post a photograph of themselves, other people or other animate objects. Is this permissible? Please explain.
A: No. Photography is counted as one of the most serious major sins for which the hadeeth sounds the curse of Allah Ta`ala and warns about the most severest punishment of the day of Qiyaamat.
And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
