Not declaring a item to customs

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Custom thieving in fabric is jaiz? What effect will there be on my job if I do this on the order of my company’s owner. This is done on the demand of the customer. We’ll have to pay full charge for customs but the customers (Africans) will not pay the full customs amount because we convert 150 meter of fabric roll into 50 yards in writing. We tear the sticker which shows 150 meters and we write 50 yards by hand. Is this right or not for me? I’m an employee, I don’t want to do this but I have to do it.

A: If you are referring to not declaring something then this will not be haraam, but it does not behove a Muslim to stoop to such levels whereby his honour and integrity can be compromised.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
