Q: Is it permissible to use zakat to purchase appliances (kettle or iron) for a needy person? The person has asked for the appliances, not cash.
A: Through purchasing the appliance with the zakaat money and making the poor person the owner of it, one’s zakaat will be discharged.
And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
كتاب الزكاة … ( هي ) لغة الطهارة والنماء وشرعا ( تمليك ) خرج الإباحة فلو أطعم يتيما ناويا الزكاة لا يجزيه إلا إذا دفع إليه المطعوم كما لو كساه بشرط أن يعقل القبض إلا إذا حكم عليه بنفقتهم ( جزء مال ) خرج المنفعة فلو أسكن فقيرا داره سنة ناويا لا يجزيه (الدر المختار 2/ 256)
