Imaam reciting “Rabbanaa lakal hamd”

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: In Kitaab al-Asl of Imaam Muhammad it states that according to Abu Hanifa the imaam should not say “Rabbanaa lakal hamd”. But in the same book Imaam Muhammad ask Abu Hanifa whether the Imaam should recite basmalah, amin and Allaahumma rabbanaa lakal hamd silenty and Abu Hanifa says yes. Why this contradiction?

A: We have not come across this. But if this is correct then this is also an opinion of Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahmatullahi alaih). Many a times you will find the imaams having several opinions on one issue.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
