Kissing the Quran: Necessary or Bidah?

Q: I had a question regarding kissing the quran and putting it on the forehead if one mistakenly drops the quran or shows disrespect to it then will it be a necessary for him to kiss the quran? If one kisses it, will it be regarded as bidah?

A: Kissing the Qur’an out of respect is permissible. This was even found among the Sahaabah (Radiyallahu Anhum). It is reported from Ibn Abi Mulaikah that Hazrat Ikrimah Bin Abi Jahl (Radiyallahu Anhu) would pick up the Qur’an and would place it on his forehead saying: “This is the speech of my Rabb (Lord), this is the speech of my Rabb.”

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
