Inviting guests even though one is in debt

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Is it correct for someone to continuously feed guests even though he is in debt? He quotes “the guest brings his own rizq and leaves with the sins of the hosts forgiven.” Please advise.

A: There is no doubt about the blessings and rewards of entertaining a guest, but the shariah insists on us to prioritize. We need to ensure that we settle our debts first and then continue showing hospitality to guests.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
