Is sickness a punishment from Allah Ta’ala?

Q: I have a question on my mind regarding the one that has some kind of severe disease like both kidney failure or cancer or such type of other painful diseases before death and death usually occurred due to these severe diseases, did these happen because of sins (gunah-e-kabira) Adultry, haraam income, bad character and love for the worldly affairs and its involvement and not being sincere with faraaiz and nawaafil and Ibaadaat (salaat on time). Are these diseases at the end of a persons life a kind of Azaab from Allah Subhaanh Wa Ta’ala?

A: At times one is faced with trials and tribulations from the side of Allah Ta’ala (e.g. sickness, etc) before death in order to cleanse one from one’s sins and to elevate one’s status in the hereafter. A Mu’min in which ever condition he may be should turn to Allah Ta’ala and fulfil what Allah Ta’ala wants from him.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
