Making purdah from one’s brother in-law

Q: Is the face of a woman auwrah? Is it compulsory to cover the face in front of men. In my husbands home, my husband’s brother and father live with us. How can I cover my face the face whole time?

A: In these times of fitnah it is compulsory for a woman to cover her face before strange men when leaving the home.  In the home, you do not have to cover your face all the time, however you should observe purdah from your brother in law through not coming before him (e.g. remaining away from where the men are). You do not have to make purdah from your father in law.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
