Will a person come out of the fold of Islam by committing sin?

Q:

  1. I just want to be clear about this, if you do haraam things like receive interest from a bank, drink alcohol etc but consider them haraam, so if you consider haraam things to be haraam but still you do them, would you come out of the fold of Islam?
  2. A Hadith said with people little amount of Imaan will come out from hell but as far as I know Quran doesn’t says people will come out from hell. Qur’an says those who enter hell will remain in it forever. So will those people be in hell forever and is above hadith correct?

A:

  1. These offences are severely reproachable and extremely serious in Islam. If one has fallen in these sins, then one should seek sincere repentance to Allah Ta’ala and make a firm resolve that one will never return to these grave sins in the future. However one will not come out of the fold of Islam.
  2. The above mentioned Hadith is correct. The Qur’an and Hadith have their own terminologies. Without the agency of a qualified Aalim, one should not embark on an independent study of the Qur’an and Hadith. This can prove extremely detrimental and dangerous. The verse of the Qur’an means that they will remain therein for a lengthy period in jahannum. The word خالدا in Arabic does not always mean forever. At times it translates as a lengthy period. Generally these types of misunderstandings and misinterpretations are created due to lack of sufficient knowledge of the sciences and terminologies of the Qur’an and Hadith.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
