Listening to music unintetionally

Q:  I would like to know the harms of listening to music unintetionally e.g. shopping centers etc and would there be any sin for this?

A: A person should not be present in an environment where sin is taking place. However, while shopping in a supermarket, mall, etc, if a person heard music unintentionally, then since this is unavoidable and one does not have control over the situation, one will not be answerable. One should however detest the sin from the bottom of his heart and continuously make istigfaar while he is in that environment as it is possible that his heart could have taken some enjoyment through the music. As soon as he completes his need, he should leave the environment.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
