Q: Can an ustaaz teaching with a salary teach in the musjid so that he may sit for the sunnat I’tikaaf in Ramadhaanul Mubarak? If not, could he continue with his teaching in the masjid and proportionately give back his salary?
A: Without a valid need, it is makrooh for an Ustaadh who receives a salary to teach in the Musjid. Teaching in the Musjid without a salary is permissible provided one ensures that no inconvenience and disturbance is caused to the musallees and those sitting for i’tikaaf.
ومعلم الصبيان القرآن كالكاتب إن كان لأجر لا وحسبة لا بأس به ومنهم من فضل هذا إن كان لضرورة الحر وغيره لا يكره وإلا فيكره وسكت عن كونه بأجر أو غيره وينبغي حمله على ما إذا كان حسبة فأما إن كان بأجر فلا شك في الكراهة وعلى هذا فإذا كان حسبة ولا ضرورة يكره لأن نفس التعليم ومراجعة الأطفال لا تخلو عما يكره في المسجد والجلوس في المسجد بغير صلاة جائز لا للمصيبة والكلام المباح فيه مكروه يأكل الحسنات والنوم فيه مكروه وقيل لا بأس للغريب أن ينام فيه (فتح القدير 1/422)
