Spreading unconfirmed news

Q: Can we send around unconfirmed news? What does Islam actually teach us about this matter? Explain from Quran and Hadith with reference.

A: The harms of spreading information which has not been verified are manifold. Hence Islam teaches us that we should verify information before disseminating it.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
