Punishment for a person committing suicide

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I read a response to the question on the punishment for a person committing suicide. However, my questions are:

  • What is the position if the person is insane and committed suicide?
  • What if the person has some other mental disorder like schizophrenia?

Bismillaah

A: A person who is insane or mentally disturbed to the extent that he cannot reason correctly will not be answerable for the wrongs he may have done.
