Peel off nail polish

Q: I would just like to know if it is permissible to wear ‘peel off nail polish’ that you can put on after performing wudhu, and then peel off when you need to make your next wudhu, it peels off easily, also comes off in water. So would it be permissible to use and can you pray salaah with it?

Bismillaah

A: If it does not contain anything impure and you are sure that it can easily be removed at the time of wudhu (i.e. it is porous), it will be permissible for a woman to use it and perform salaah with it.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.

Q: We have recieved the fatwa regarding the nail polish being permisable for the use of women for whudhu ie. the one that resembles fancy cutex colours and is removable for whudhu. What about this resembling the kuffaar? Also if such a statement is made then many women can be mislead. Taking it to be as though “it is know halaal”! This is very crucial.

Towards understanding this masla I would also like to know about the condition of the Salaah had paint, tipex ect remained on ones hands after Salaah and only realizing it at a later part of that day when the salaah time had finished. What is the condition of salaah and what is the minimum amount of paint ect. that whudhu is impermissible with because many times we are faced with this and repeat our salaah again and again not realising that there still remains a small drop somewhere each time.

A:

  1. If the polish resembles the ways of the kuffaar, then Muslim women should refrain from using it.
  2. If paint or tip-ex remained on any limb of the body which has to be washed in wudhu, and thus prevented the water from reaching the limb, the wudhu will not be complete. Hence, the Salaah performed with such a wudhu will be invalid.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.
