Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Is this hadees authentic and what are the references of the hadees? “Telling a lie is allowed in three situations. 1) For husband to have a small lie for his wife to make her happy, like you looks very beautiful today and in fact she might not. 2) In situation where your saying truth might become a reason for a big fasad.  3) If you are in danger of your life if some people knows that you are muslim then you can temporarily hide your identity as muslim other wise you might get killed”.

Bismillaah

A: Refer to Sunan Abu Dawood and the sharah of Abu Dawood.
