Sunnah method of Raising the hands in Dua

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Imam Waqidi mentions that a sahabi in Qadisiyya made duaa for Allah’s help by looking up to sky and palms facing down. Translator (Mol Kindi Sb) says this is forgotten sunnah. So what exactly is Sunnah method? should one stand with hand to sides as if in quamah after ruku with palms down and look up asking Allah’s help in situation?

Bismillaah

A: The sunnah method of duaa recorded in the hadith is to raise the hands up till the chest facing the palms upwards. However, if one looks towards the sky and makes duaa through one’s heart, it is permissible.
