Mendhi on the hair and beard

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: If it is Sunnah to put mendhi or dye the hair and beard, then how can they be reward and it be good to have white hairs, as the more white hairs the more the merits?  And if it is Sunnah to dye the hair, didnt Nabi (s.a.w) have white hairs when he passed away?

Bismillaah

A: The using of mehndi is sunnat as proven from saheeh ahadith. Out of love for Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and considering it to be sunnat will definitely be of thawaab. Obviously, it is the hair that is white that is dyed with mehndi. Black hair does not need to be dyed.
