Sadaqatul Fitr on Behalf of One’s Parents Living With Him

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Regarding sadaqatul fitr, a father and mother are living with their son and family. Both parents are getting monthly pension. Do they have to give this sadaqatul fitr separately or should the son (who is wealthy – wife is also earning) give this on behalf of all i.e. his family plus his parents?

A: If both parents are wealthy then it is compulsory for them to discharge the sadaqatul fitr. However, it is permissible for the son to discharge the sadaqatul fitr with their consent.
