Spending on one’s family on the day of Aashura

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Is it permissible to eat meat or chicken or any type of delicious food on the 10th of Muhrram?

Bismillaah

A: Yes. The Hadith encourages one to spend on one’s family on the day of Aashura.

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم قال من أوسع على عياله و أهله يوم عاشوراء أوسع الله عليه سائر سنته (الترغيب والترهيب 2/ 48)

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radiyallahu anahu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “Whoever spends freely upon his family on the day of Aashura, Allah Ta`ala will bless him with abundant sustenance for an entire year.”

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
