Dealing with Urine: My Struggle with Istabraa

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My issue is with regards to urine, for which I have been dealing with for the past couple of years. When I visit the bathroom, after urinating, I perform istabraa by jerking the private part up and wiping any urine that comes out after. I do this over and over again until every single drop or even a hint of any liquid is clear from even the tip of the private part. After this I wrap some toilet paper around the private part and carry on until later on. After a while I visit the loo again and jerk my private part up once or twice to ensure nothing is present and carry on with washing up again. There are times when urine comes up still and again I wash up and use toiler paper and have to come back again after a while to wash again. Recently, after urinating, when performing istabra (as above) the urine drops don’t seem to stop. Most of it comes out, but as I mentioned that I like to ensure every drop is out. So after performing istabraa and I feel everything has been wiped when I jerk my private part up again just to make sure, I see still very very tiny liquid on the inside of the tip of the private part. I would carry on wiping until complete but it sometimes takes me 20 minutes to clean up properly. The urine drops are very tiny and only come up after I jerk my private part up so I am not even sure that they would come up by itself. Because I see the very tiny liquid still coming out, i keep performing the istabraa and it is also sometime hurting physically. I have this feeling that if I do not jerk my penis up, even after wrapping tissue paper on it, and coming back to check after a while that nothing will come out. But to be sure I do it anyway, and after about 2-3 jerks sometimes a tiny tiny drop is seen on the inside of the tip of the private part. How can I combat this, what do I do? As I said only when I jerk my private part up do I see something and when I see it I have to sit again and jerk my private part up and wipe until again I am sure there is absolutely nothing left, is this necessary? Because of this as well I sometimes tend to get late for Salaah which is not good, please provide any advice from your side?

Bismillaah

A: Don’t burden yourself. After urinating place a piece a of tissue around your private area. After half an hour when all the urine drops have come out, then remove it and make wudhu and perform Salaah. The is no need for you to keep on touching that area.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
