Is it Halal to Buy a House with a Mortgage in Canada?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I have a question that I personally don’t have any house or any land in any of the countries. We always hate interest and never did any business or anything else where interest is present. Our income is 100% halaal with an office job. If I buy a house with a mortgage in Canada for personal living with the niyyat of paying it off as soon as possible (within 5,7 years), is it permissible?

Bismillaah

A: It is not permissible. Taking an interest bearing loan is haraam. There are severe warnings mentioned in the Hadith for the one who has any involvement in interest. Hazrat Jaabir (radhiyallahu anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) had cursed the one who consumes interest, pays interest, the scribe for the interest bearing deal and the witness to such a deal.”

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
