The Shariah Aspect of Stunning Animals for Halal Slaughter

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Almost all Halaal Certifying Bodies appear to condone the stunning of animals and even chickens prior to slaughtering. But what is the Shariah aspect in this respect? Is it simply deemed an undesirable practice but not explicitly permitted or condoned?

Bismillaah

A: If the slaughterer is quite sure that the animal was alive at the time of slaughtering then the slaughtering will be halaal. However, the practice of stunning is not in keeping with the sunnat standard.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
