Putting Down an Aged and Ailing Dog: Is it Permissible?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Is it permissible to put down an aged and ailing dog. We have a dog who have lost his eyesight due to old age. His health is deteriorating gradually. The vet has advised to put him down. Is this permissible?

Bismillaah

A: If they are troublesome or it is difficult to take care of them, it will be permissible.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
