Washing neck in salat

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwa.org.au
Does a person have to wipe his neck during wudu?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

In wudhu, it is mustahab (preferable) to make masah  of (i.e. to wipe) the nape (the back part of the neck). As for making masah of the throat (front part of the neck) during wudu, the Jurists have deemed it to be a bid’ah (innovation) and hence impermissible, as it was not the practice of Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam).
