Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Mahmoodiyah

Question:

Assalamualaikum,

Why is it not allowed to pray 2 Rak’aats Naafilah before the Fardh of Maghrib in the Hanafi Madhab as there are Sahih Hadiths tell us to do so like that between every azan and Iqaamah there is a prayer and others Hadiths which are specifically mentioning a Naafilah prayer before Maghrib.

Please send us a detailed explanation

Was salaam

Answer:

The reading of 2 Rak’aats Nafl Salaah after the Adhaan of Maghrib before the Fardh Salaah is a matter which the scholars hold conflicting views on. This difference has been found amongst the initial scholars of Islam. Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar used to refute its validity. And besides the Ahnaaf, Imam Maalik used to prohibit from this Salaah as well. According to the preferred opinion in the Hanafi Madhab, reading two Rak’aats Nafl Salaah after the Adhaan of Maghrib before the Fardh Salaah is not preferable and Mustahab. Rather it is merely allowed provided there is no unnecessary delay in the Fardh of Maghrib.
