This Ramadhan I have decided to grow my beard correctly and follow the pious

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by eFiqh.com

This Ramadan I have decided to grow my beard correctly and follow the pious. A brother advised me that the beard I should grow is what grows from on the jawline and beneath the chin and that any hair above this can be removed. Is this correct? If so what is the evidence or ruling?

Answer

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu

Alhamdullilah
, we are very pleased to see your great enthusiasm and zeal for bringing alive the blessed Sunnah in your life.

‘’Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu Anhu reports that Rasullullah Sallalahu Allayhi Wassallam mentions’’;

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم : من تمسك بسنتي عند فساد أمتي فله أجر مائة شهيد

 ‘’That person who hold fast to my Sunnah at the time of the corruption of my Ummah will receive the reward of hundred martyrs.’’[1

In principle, it is not permissible to cut the hair along the jawbone and beneath the chin, unless it exceeds a fist.[2] Any hair that grows on the cheeks or throat may be removed.[3]

We make Dua to Allah Ta’ala that he grants you Istiqamah and makes you a means of Hidaayah (guidance) for your family and the Ummah at large. Aameen

And Allah Ta’ala knows best
