Women visiting the cemetery

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Q. After the passing of a relative, even though it is not permitted that women go to the cemetery on the burial day, but is it possible to go on any other day to make dua for the deceased? For example, for a woman to go on the 40th day to make dua for the loved one who has departed?

A. If women wish to make dua for the loved ones who have departed, then they can do so at home. There is no need for them to visit the cemetery simply to make dua.

As for going on the 40th day, there is absolutely no significance of the 40th day. Hence, there is no need to go to the cemetery on the 40th day.

As mentioned by many scholars, it is not the best, and it is not encouraged that women go to the cemetery. If they wish to visit, then they must adhere to the guidelines which the jurists have mentioned (as given in our answer of women visiting the cemetery).

And Allah knows best.
