Q. I understand that products containing whey should be avoided. Can you give a detailed explanation on this and also in relation to rennet and acquiring the whey from within a calf’s stomach?
A. Whey is obtained when milk is curdled with rennet or enzymes in the making of cheese. Therefore if the rennet is not halaal, then the Whey would be not permissible also. However, we have not found non permissible Whey in the food industry to date and therefore we cautiously allow its use.
