Payment of loan from interest money

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Q. I would like to know if a non muslim owes me 100 dollars and there is no hope of getting it back and I receive 100 dollars interest on my savings account from my bank, can I make the intention of that 100 dollars owed to me by the above person mention, will the interest be counted as not taking, since I make intention that the money will count as interest to the non muslim as being taking out from my bank account.?

A. It will not be permissible for you to make such intention on the 100 dollars you receive as interest. The interest money that you collect from the bank cannot be used by yourself in any way whatsoever, regardless of the intention you make. It is given by the bank as interest, and it will continue to be interest. You must give it away to the poor and needy.

And Allah knows best.
