Does the wife have to cook for her husband?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Does the wife have to cook for her husband

 Answer:

It has been the custom and practice since the time of the Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) that the wife should serve her husband in the customary manner, by preparing food, washing his clothes, cleaning the house according to what is appropriate.

Saaidah Fatima raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) would do all the household chores whilst Saaiduna Ali Radiallahu Anhu would carry out all the economic activities. The Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) never objected to it.

However, it must be borne in mind that it is not a legal obligation of the wife to cook the meals or do the household chores. It is advisable that she performs these functions out of cooperation. (Contemporary Fatawa p.124)
