What to do about people who abuse their authority in an Islamic organisation?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Asalaam o alaikum I work for a religious organisation and my question is this. If people/s who are in charge of a Islamic organisation create lies towards other individuals but hide these lies very well using their position of authority then Islamically what should be done regarding such people/s. Answer with proofs only please.

 Answer:

If there is anyone who is above them, then you can tell them of their wrongdoings and deceptions. You can also advise them to stop their deception and wrongdoings.

It is narrated by Saaiduna Anas raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) that the Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said, “Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or is being oppressed.” People asked, “O Prophet of Allah! We help the one being oppressed but how do we help an oppressor?” The Prophet said, “By seizing his hand (preventing him from oppression).” (Sahih Bukhari)

The people in charge of the Islamic organisations should be warned that Allah has bestowed them with a responsibility and to abuse their authority is a sin which will lead to being questioned by Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He).

The Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: “Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock. The ruler is the shepherd of his people and is responsible for his flock… (Sahih Bukhari & Sahih Muslim)

It is narrated by Saaiduna Abdullah Ibn Amr raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) that the Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said, “It is sufficient sin for a man to neglect those who are under his care.” (Musnad Ahmad and Sunan Abu Dawuud)

The Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said “There is no man whom Allah causes to be appointed to a position of responsibility and he does not discharge his duties sincerely, but he will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise.” (Sahih Bukhari)
