Does the emission of Madhi necessitate a ghusl?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Does the emission of Madhi necessitate a ghusl

 Answer:

The liquid which is being released is not called Mani which makes ghusl obligatory, but it is Madhi, which does not make the ghusl obligatory.

Besides urine three liquids can also come out of one’s private parts.

1. Madhi (pre-coital fluid), is a thin clear liquid which is discharged at the time of arousal without ejaculation. This necessitates wudu on emission.

2. Mani (Sperm) is a white thick fluid which is discharged at the time of ejaculation. This necessitates a ghusl on emission.

3. Wadi is a white cloudy thick fluid which has no smell and is discharged either before or after urinating. This necessitates wudu on emission. (Hashiat Tahtawi p.100)

Madhi is impure, therefore, one will be required to wash that area where the madhi is with water to make it pure. (Dars Tirmizi p.346 v.1)
