Wadhi Problem

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

I am suffereing from a problem whereby if i don’t urinate for some hours, there is a small amount of white substance that is secreted from my penis. I suspect this may be wadhi, alhogh i am not sure as i am led to believe that wadhi is more colourless in colour rather than white. There is greater secretion with more physical activity or the longer i go without urinating. Could you please tell me what this condition is called and whether there is any cure to this problem?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

Mani (sperm) is a white thick fluid, which is discharged at the time of ejaculation. This necessitates a fardh ghusul on its emission. Madhi is a thin clear liquid, which is discharged at the time of arousal without ejaculation. This necessitates wudhu on its emission. Wadhi is a white thick fluid, which has no smell and is discharged either before or after urinating. This necessitates wudhu on its emission. (Maraqi Falah p.150)

The aforementioned problem you are experiencing is called wadhi. On its emission your wudhu will break. It is impure hence, any clothes will need to be washed which has been spoiled by wadhi.

I am unaware of any cure for the problem. It may be preferable for you to visit the doctor or alternatively a Hakim for treatment.
