Paint brushes made out of boar bristles being used in the Masjid

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

made out of boar bristles were used on the wudhu area, then the ruling is that the wudhu area would become impure. This is because when dry boar bristles become wet when painting the impurity will be transferred to that area, hence, if one’s feet comes into contact with that area, his feet will become impure and then if he walks into the Masjid the Masjid carpet will become impure.

To make that area pure one should pour water over it three times. (Nurul Idah p.54)

The wudhu khana in the masjid has had a thermoplastic undercoat paint applied. Since paint and paint brushes can contain pig material, and it is unlikely that the builders would have been cognisant of this issue

1. What is the ruling of performing wudhu in the wudhu khana?
2. Does the jamat khana carpet become napaak if people walk there with wet feet from the wudhu khana?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

Firstly, it should be borne in mind that not all paints have pig substances and not all paintbrushes are made out of pig hair. Therefore, you should not put yourself into unnecessary difficulty and doubts.

There is a principle in Islamic jurisprudence which is:

“Certainty is not lifted by a doubt.” (Al Ashbah Wan Nadhair p.60)

If something is pure apparently, then having a doubt that it is impure would not lift the certainty of it being pure.

If however, paint brushes
