Tabarrukh

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

What is tabarrukh? And is it permissible?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

 Answer

Tabarukk means to seek blessings through the traces of the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam and righteous people. (Imam Nawawi (RA) Sharh Sahih Muslim)

Seeking blessings is a recommended act and the Sahabas Radiallahu Anhum used to seek blessings from the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam during his lifetime and after his death.

Abdullah, the freed slave of Asma bint Abi Bakr Radiallhu Anhu reports that Asma sent me to Saaiduna Abdullah Ibn Umar Radiallhu Anhu I went back to Asma and informed her, where upon she said: “Here is the cloak of The Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam.” She bought out to me a cloak made of Persian cloth with a hem of brocade and it’s sleeves bordered with brocade and said: “This was Prophet of Allah’s cloak with Saaidah Aaisha Radiallhu Anha until she died. When she passed away I got possession of it. The Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam used to wear it, and we washed it for the sick so they could seek cure thereby.” (Sahih Muslim)

Mahmud-Ibn Rabi Radiallhu Anhu has said: “Whenever the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam performed ablution, the companions almost fought over the excess water.” (Sahih Bukhari P.31 V.1)
