Sexual intercourse during pregnancy

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Sexual intercourse during pregnancy

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

It is permissible to have sexual intercourse with ones wife who is pregnant, irrespective of how early or late she is in her pregnancy. However, if a God-fearing Muslim doctor advises the couple that sexual intercourse may be harmful during pregnancy for the mother or for the unborn child, then it should be avoided.

If the couple do decide to engage in sexual activity, the husband should ensure he is extremely gentle and careful with his pregnant wife. He should avoid positions that may cause discomfort for her. (Islamic Guide to Sexual Relations, Mufti Ibn Adam Al Kawthari, p.30)
