Reading Duruud Ibrahim 500 times

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

If you pray duruud Ibrahim  500 times, does this remove difficulties and turmoil?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

There are numerous ahadith, which talk about the virtues and significance of reciting duruud on our beloved Prophet Muhammad Mustafa Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam.

Saaiduna Abdullah Ibn Masud Radiallahu Anhu narrates that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam has said “The person who asked blessings on me abundantly, will be the nearest to me on the Day of Judgement” (Sunan Tirmizi)

Saaiduna Anas Radiallahu Anhu narrates that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalm has said,  “Allah bestows ten measures of mercy to the one who recites Durood on me; ten of his sins are forgiven; he is elevated ten ranks and ten virtuous deeds are written in his Book of Deeds” (Sunan Nasai & Musnad Ahmad)

Saaiduna Abu Darda Radiallahu Anhu narrates that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam said,  “My Shafaa’at (intercession) will be for him who recites daily ten times Durood on me during the morning and ten times during the evening.” (Tabaani)

Saaiduna Abu Hurairah Radiallahu Anhu narrates that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam has said, “A gathering devoid of the mention of Allah Ta’ala and Durood for Rasulullah will be the cause of regret on the Day of Judgement. If Allah wants he can punish them or forgive them.” (Sunan Abi Dawud & Musnad Ahmad)

Saaiduna Ali Radiallahu Anhu narrates that Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam said: “A great miser is he in whose presence I am mentioned and he refrains from reciting Durood on me.” (Sunan Tirmizi, Sunan Nasai, & Imam Bukhari in his Tarikh)

With regards to your question there are no ahadith, which says that reciting duruud Ibrahim 500 times removes difficulties and calamities. It’s the practice of our pious predecessors. It does not mean you should abandon the practice, but continue with it and Insha Allah you will be rewarded. It is permissible to continue reciting as long as one avoids considering the specific number or benefit from being established through the sunnah.
