What is the duration of Ishraq and Chasht?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Please tell me, what is the duration of Ishraq i.e. how many hours etc and what time does Chasht starts? Some people say Ishraq lasts for 30 minutes after sunrise. Some people say Ishraq lasts for 2 hours, after which Chast starts. Please differentiate between both of these in terms of time duration.

The time of Chasht and Ishraq salah starts after 20 minutes of sunrise (when the makrooh time is over) and the time of Chast remains up to Zawal as it is mentioned in Fiqh Books. As far as the matter of Ishraq is concerned there is no explanation regarding it in the book of Fiqh as scholars of Fiqh consider both the salah as one, but the Sufi scholars of hadith consider them as two separate salah and proved it from hadith as it is mentioned in Ala al-Sunan (7/24-29, Kitab al-Salah, publisher: Idara al-Quran wal Uloom al-Islamia Karachi, Pakistan), hence they have mentioned different times for both as it is mentioned in Ala al-Sunan with the reference of Allama Siraj Ahmad:
إن المتعارف في أول النهار صلاتان ، الأولى بعد طلوع الشمس وارتفاعها قدر رمح أو رمحين ويقال لها : صلاة الإشراق ، والثانية عند ارتفاع الشمس قدر ربع النهار إلى ماقبل الزوال ، ويقال لها : صلاة الصحى . (إلاء السنن 7/25 ، كتاب الصلاة)
It means that the time of Ishraq starts after the sun goes up equal to one or two spear size (i.e. when the makrooh time is over) and the time of Chast salah is when one fourth day passes over. Hence it is not right to limit the time of Ishraq with 30 minutes or two hours. However, it is correct that the virtues of Ishraq salah shall be availed when a man offers Fajr salah with Jamah and stays there and offers Ishraq salah after the makrooh time is over as it is mentioned in Akhtari Bahishti Zewar Vol. 2, p. 30. Hence it is better to offer Ishraq salah after the makrooh time is over, and Chasht salah when one fourth day is passed. It is mentioned in Dur al-Mukhtar regarding Chasht time:
وندب أربع فصاعدا في الضحى من بعد الطلوع إلى الزوال ووقتها المختار بعد ربع النهار . (الدر المختار مع شامي 2/465 ، الصلاة ، باب الوتر والنوافل ، ط: زكريا ديوبند
