Is it permissible for a woman to sleep with her mother while clinging to her in the same blanket?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Assalamu alaikum It is said that it is not allowed in Islam for two men or two women to sleep in the same blanket or sleep in a state of clinging to or embracing each other. I know a girl who is between 18 and 23 years of age. And she has a habit since childhood of sleeping with her mother in the same blanket and clinging to her mother while sleeping. It should be noted that it is a habit only and there is NO medical or physical requirement. Is it allowed for a woman to sleep with her mother in such circumstances?

Answer

(Fatwa: 980/980/M=1432)

According to Shariah it is forbidden for two males or two females to sleep or lay down together in a single blanket or sheet when both of them are naked and they have no cloth between them:
نهى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عن مكامعة الرجل الرجل بغير شعار ومكامعة المرأة المرأة بغير شعار الخ (مشكوة).
Also it is mentioned in the annotation of Mishkah:
عن مكامعة الرجل أى مضاجعة الرجل صاحبه في ثوب واحد لا حاجز بينهما بأن يكونا عاريين . (حاشيه مشكوة).
However, if there is cloth etc between both of them, then though it is not unlawful sleeping two persons in the same blanket but it is better for them to sleep separately even if they are mother and daughter.
