What is the Islamic ruling on donating gold or silver to charity equivalent to a baby’s shaved hair?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Is it recommended in Islam to give to charity gold or silver equal in weight to the baby’s first shaved hair? Further what to do with the shaved hair?

Answer

(Fatwa: 985/591/L=1433)

It is mustahab for the parents to name their newly born child on seventh day and shave his/her head and give in charity gold or silver equal to the weight of the hair and to bury the hair. If one can afford, he should perform aqiqah. It is mustahab for the aqiqah of baby boy to slaughter two goats or two shares in big animal while one goat or one share in big animal for the aqiqah of baby girl.
