Khatna before aqeeqah: necessary? Shave hair ok? Aqeeqah still doable?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Assalamualaikum, Janab please advise whether it is also required to perform khatna (circumcision) of a new born baby boy before performing his aqeeqah or simply shaving of his hair is ok. Also, if it is difficult even to shave the hair of the baby due to health concerns can we still perform the Aqeeqah.

Answer

(Fatwa: 1855/1333/L=1431)

(1) It is not necessary to perform khatna (circumcision) first, only shaving hair is enough.
(2) Aqiqah may be done without shaving hair. However, if there is no compulsion, it is mustahab to shave hair.
