Can a non-Muslim do work in a mosque, and can a person see the expense records of the waqf committee?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
i am sameer deshmukh from gwalior,my matter is that there is a mosque in my neighbour where i offer namaz going regularly to masque i found that waqf commitie members has given permission to a non muslim to do all kind of work like wise collecting rent from shops of masque, giving sallary to imaam, cleaning water tank and other important work like mantaining all expenses records.but when i questioned to the waqf commitie they said there is no harm.and when i asked for expense statement they said you have no right to see the records we will show it to state waqf board and to allah only.please guid me from quran and hadit that such work of masjid be done by a non muslim or muslim ,and can a person see expense record of waqf commitie.

Answer

(Fatwa: 823/717=B/1429)

Your question indicates that the abovementioned non-Muslim is an employee of the Waqf Committee who deals with the affairs of the mosque as an employee; he is not trustee of the mosque, the real trustee and administrator of the mosque is the Committee. So there is no problem in it, but the committee should employ any honest Muslim for looking after the Muslim Waqf properties. If you doubt the accounts of the Waqf Committee, you can see its records.
