Is it allowed to have dua for death in a mosque according to Islam?

In our place when some one dies for ijtmahi fatheha (dua)is taken in the mosque, for 2 or there hours.a Qari recites the Holy Quran,s few Ayats or a surah then ijtamhi dua. People come & goes for these 2 or 3 hours some sit out side the mosque in the sehin of the mosque & talk with each others.is it allowed to have dua for death in mosque. is these type of dua allowed in ISLAM. I have herad that the hloy prophet (P.B.U.H) says not to gather on death in the mosque is it ture.

We do not know any such hadith which asks ‘not to gather in mosque on death’. It is not unlawful to supplicate for the dead person and do isal-e-thawab (deliver the rewards of tilawat etc) for him, but it is not necessary to fix any particular day and time for the same. However, having a custom of gathering in mosque for collective dua and fatiha as mentioned above is not right.
