Is it permissible for Hanafi madhab followers to perform ghaibana namaz-e-janaza?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
The followers of Shafai madhhab are performing ghaibana namaz-e-janaza; is it permissible for Hanafi madhab followers to perform the same.

Answer

(Fatwa: 1359/1088/B=1433)

Janazah salah is fardh kifayah i.e. if some Muslims offer it then this fardh shall be fulfilled from all the Muslims. Ghaibana namaz janazah is not established as per Hanafi Fiqh hence a Hanafi needs not to join it, he just should keep on supplicating for the maghfirah (forgiveness) of the deceased, it is enough.
